To apply for a KeyBank Hassle-Free Account, you'll need the following:
- Your Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number
- One valid form of primary identification (such as a driver’s license, valid passport, or government-issued ID with photo and signature)

If you do not have sufficient funds available to cover a transaction in your KeyBank Hassle-Free Account, this may cause the transaction to be declined.
However, based on how the payment transaction was presented to KeyBank and whether the merchant requested available balance verification, it is possible a payment could be posted to your account, resulting in an overdraft situation.
In the rare case that your account is overdrawn, KeyBank will not charge you an overdraft or NSF (non-sufficient funds) fee.
No, because the KeyBank Hassle-Free Account is a checkless account. Any third-party checks presented to KeyBank for payment will not be paid from this account and will be returned to the maker, even if there are sufficient funds in the Account. (It is important to note, you may be charged a fee by the merchant for any transaction KeyBank declines to pay against your account.)
You can access any KeyBank ATM at no charge using your KeyBank debit card. There is a $3 fee for using a non-KeyBank ATM in the United States and a $5 fee for using an ATM outside of the United States.

Early Pay is a service included with your KeyBank consumer deposit account in which KeyBank makes your eligible direct deposits available up to two business days early. Eligible direct deposits include certain transactions such as payroll, government benefits, or similar types of payments. The Early Pay service is dependent on when KeyBank receives information from the payer that the funds are on the way, this could vary, and you may not always receive your funds early. You cannot opt out of Early Pay.
This offer is redeemable online only; however, if you are a non-US citizen, you must open your account in a KeyBank branch. Valid Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number and US address required to qualify for promotion. You must open a Hassle-Free® or Key Smart Checking® Account by 12/19/25 at 11:59 p.m. EST and make a total of $2,000 or more in eligible direct deposits within 90 days of account opening to get $300. Eligible direct deposits are electronic automated clearing house (ACH) deposits. Examples of eligible direct deposits include, but are not limited to: payroll, Social Security, pension and government benefits. Immediate Funds℠ is available in the KeyBank mobile app as an option for eligible mobile check deposits. You will also have the option for a standard deposit at no charge. The Immediate Funds fee is 2% of the deposit amount, with a minimum fee of $2.
Immediate Funds requests made after 11:00 p.m. ET will have immediate funds availability for ATM withdrawal and point-of-sale transactions.
